Position Summary
The Trimming Generalist is responsible for finishing formed dinnerware; plates, bowls, platters, slip cast ware in preparation for glazing.
Responsibilities
- Trimming on the wheel for regular shapes in preparation for glazing
- Trimming slip cast ware carefully and producing uniform, smooth finishes at a reasonable pace
- Fettling seams, scouring and sponging pieces to a smooth finish by hand
- Trimming formed plaza pieces in preparation for glazing
- Sponging plaza pieces using the belt machine
- Trimming formed pieces using proven techniques for each piece, including sanding, using scraping tools, operating the belt wiper, and sponging in preparation for glazing
- Moving finished pieces into the bisque inventory
Qualifications and Experience
- Desire to work in a hands-on, production plant environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; must be patient, flexible, and calm
- Excellent attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to follow safety protocols and detailed instructions
- Commitment to upholding Heath’s standards of craftsmanship and workplace safety
Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)
- Frequent lifting of clay (20–30 lbs) and transferring to and from work surfaces
- Repetitive hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder motions
- Regular standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and other physical activity required in a production environment
- Visual Acuity Requirements: Must have close vision, depth perception, and field vision to inspect materials, operate equipment safely, detect small defects, read measurements, and assess product quality and machinery accuracy.
Work Environment/ Hours / Compensation
This position is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site role at our Sausalito Factory & Showroom. The hours for this position are 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The rate for this position is $25.00/hr.
