Position Summary

This position is an eight-month trainee position. Training will begin by learning the basics; safety procedures, spray equipment operation, glaze preparation, and how to read work orders. Training will then begin with tile spraying.

Tile glazing requires consistent and precise work, including preparation of shaped tile for spraying and wiping glazed tile after spraying. Glaze needs to be applied in the right amount and uniformly to specifications. Tile glazers must follow production glaze lists carefully and record progress on all production orders.

Responsibilities

_ Tile glaze prep of greenware (offloading)
_ Visual inspection of prepped tile (greenware)
_ Inspection, setup, cleanup, and maintenance of glaze equipment (spray booth, tank, gun, and scale)
_ Track totals on production orders
_ Operate and return proper order per end of day checklist
_ Maintenance of glaze room (Mopping, cleaning, barrels)
_ Glazing tile with a minimum goal of an average of 400 square feet per day with appropriate technique (weight, application), as assigned

Requirements

_ Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands on” 

_ Excellent people skills: must be patient, flexible, and calm 

_ Excellent communication skills both written and oral

_ Ability to enhance a team

_ Proficiency with basic Mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)

_ The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). Total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.
_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling. 

Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and inspecting materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small objects, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and visual checks of materials and machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. QC and Mounting may require a colorblindness test before start of the position.

Experience

No experience required but a plus. Professional painting experience a plus.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate has very good attention to detail, works rapidly and is always mindful of quality. MUST follow safety procedures. Must have a positive attitude and foster a team environment. MUST be willing to learn from experienced personnel during a thorough training period. Good communication skills are required.

Hourly based on Union Wage Scale
