We manufacture our products in two Bay Area locations, dinnerware is produced in our original Sausalito factory with approximately 40 highly skilled production staff and our tile is produced in our San Francisco factory with approximately 20 highly skilled production staff, just like we have since 1948.
The Trimming Generalist is responsible for finishing formed dinnerware - plates, bowls, platters, slip cast ware, plaza, and more - in preparation for glazing.
Essential Role Functions
_ Trimming on the wheel for regular shapes in preparation for glazing
_ Trimming slip cast ware carefully and producing uniform, smooth finishes at a reasonable pace
_ Fettling seams, scouring and sponging pieces to a smooth finish by hand
_ Trimming formed plaza pieces in preparation for glazing
_ Sponging plaza pieces using the belt machine
_ Trimming formed pieces using proven techniques for each piece, including sanding, using scraping tools, operating the belt wiper, and sponging in preparation for glazing
_ Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands on”
_ Great people skills: must be patient, flexible, and calm
_ Excellent communication skills
_ Excellent attention to detail
_ Ability to enhance a team
_ Ability to follow strict safety guidelines
_ Ability to follow instructions accurately and in a timely manner
_ Ability to trim 150-500 regular pieces per day depending on item size and shape
_ Ability to trim 150-350 plaza pieces per day depending on item size and shape
_ Ability to trim 60-180 slip cast pieces per day depending on item size and shape
_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling
Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and inspecting materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small objects, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and visual checks of materials and machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
An ideal candidate has very good attention to detail, works efficiently and is always mindful of quality. MUST follow safety procedures. Must have a positive attitude and foster a team environment. MUST be willing to learn from experienced personnel during a thorough training period. Good communication skills are required.
