The Head of Facilities Engineering reports directly to the Production Director and is responsible for providing engineering direction and support for our dinnerware & tile manufacturing teams in San Francisco and Sausalito. Heath is a growing company and has many ongoing equipment and facility projects to support that growth. This individual would have the responsibility for defining the scope, planning & managing those projects.
_ Provides leadership, support and guidance to the engineering teams responsible for the day to day maintenance of facilities and equipment at these two locations.
_ Provides strategic planning, design, layout or modification of equipment and facilities to improve efficiency and meet production goals.
_ Specifies new equipment and contracts with outside vendors and contractors to provide materials and labor to complete projects.
_ Coordinates projects using skilled in-house labor and contractors. Works with public officials to meet all regulatory requirements.
_ Mentors facilities department managers and workers in ways to improve performance.
_ Promotes teamwork and fosters professional growth of all engineering team members.
_ Working knowledge of mechanical principles related to electro-mechanical production machinery, mechanical transmissions, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial ventilation, gas fired equipment. Experience with mixing, extrusion and forming equipment is a plus.
_ Working knowledge of metal fabrication techniques. Experience with machining, welding and blueprint reading.
_ Working knowledge of electric motors & control systems... motor starters, PLCs, VFDs etc. including safety devices, light curtains, emergency stopping of machinery.
_ Good general understanding of OSHA safety requirements in a manufacturing environment, machine guarding & ventilation requirements for hazardous materials.
_ Knowledge of building systems, structural, power distribution & lighting, ventilation, plumbing, painting & roofing.
_ Knowledge of building safety systems, fire suppression, fire alarm, egress, security & knowledgeable in emergency response procedures a plus
Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience & knowledge.
Strong background in the maintenance and repair of electro-mechanical equipment, with 5-10 years of current hands-on experience. Electrical skills should include working knowledge of power distribution, single and 3 phase motors and motor control circuits.
This person should have understanding of basic plumbing and carpentry. Machine shop & welding skills are a plus. Knowledge of fire suppression systems and hazardous material handling also very helpful. Working knowledge of Natural gas heaters/furnaces/kilns, Ventilation, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Power transmission, Fluid pumping systems
Because of the many customers this person deals with it is very important that this individual has demonstrated very good communication and customer service skills in dealing with a variety of customers.
Demonstrated strong organizational and leadership skills and the ability to prioritize work are a must to keep day to day operations running smoothly.
Lean manufacturing experience preferred.

Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: cleaning and maintaining surfaces; visual inspection of machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
