As we follow our plan towards zero-to-landfill, sustainability factors into every decision at Heath. Our dual site custodian will help to execute on our LEAN vision by assisting with a variety of related projects at our Sausalito and San Francisco location.
We need someone who has a positive attitude and outlook, who is friendly, flexible and approachable. This person is responsible for keeping our building and grounds in clean and orderly condition. This is a very physical position and responsibilities include heavy cleaning duties and painting.
There will be construction going on in the building, and this role may also help to keep those areas clean too. There may be some routine maintenance activities, as well as notifying management of needed repairs.
_ Usually works independently cleaning and painting often on a regularly assigned schedule but will also be asked to work on other assigned projects as needed.
_ Cleans surfaces (metal, wood, sheetrock, masonry, glass windows etc) as scheduled utilizing approved cleaners, squeegees, brushes, sand paper, scraping tools, brooms, power washer and other hand & power tools. Applies coatings: primers, paints, stains, clear coats to surfaces using brushes, rollers, sprayers etc. as needed
_ Heath has specific colors and finishes that are required in different areas of the facility and on different equipment so individual must insure proper selection and should consult with there supervisor if they are unsure. Selects and procures materials to support to work as needed. Organizes and safely stores materials in designated areas at each location.
_ Cleaning and applying coatings often involves hazardous substances. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment respirators, dust masks, eye protection and carefully uses ladders, forklift and manlift equipment as needed.
_ Works closely with the Janitorial staff at each location and will be assigned janitorial duties and fill in for Janitorial staff when they are away from work. Janitorial duties include empty trash or other waste materials, mopping and cleaning floors, cleaning: restrooms, lunch rooms, offices, toilets, sinks, walls, trash receptacles etc. as needed.
_ Other duties include some landscaping: trimming of bushes or trees, watering and feeding plants and controlling weeds
_ May also help in the relocation in equipment or storage moves as needed erecting and installing racking or other duties as assigned.
_Work closely with facilities staff on facilities maintenance, utilizing mechanical and electrical skills
Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)
_ The ability to transport furniture, refuse, and other materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time).
_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.
Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: cleaning and maintaining surfaces; visual inspection of machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
_ A minimum of 2 years janitorial and/or facilities experience
_ Minimum 1 year facilities experience
_ Someone who can be on their feet all day and be able to lift up to 50 lbs
_ A person with good communication skills- must be able to speak, read and write in English
_ Recent forklift experience very desirable, however, training and certification is available
_ Experience in Zero Waste environments
_ Prior work in a LEAN manufacturing or related environment
An ideal candidate has very good attention to detail, works rapidly and is always mindful of quality. MUST follow safety procedures. Must have a positive attitude and foster a team environment. MUST be willing to learn from experienced personnel during a training period. Good communication skills are required.
