Role Summary

A Graphic Designer at Heath is a highly creative and versatile visual communicator. They have a strong graphic background, great technical skills, and ability to build systems when needed to ensure excellent and consistent execution. They can develop and understand Heath’s visual identity strategy and deliver the best possible creative solutions in a holistic way across a wide range of applications and media: from identity work to packaging, photography, print, digital, and everything in-between.

In close partnership with the Creative Team – Design and Communications – the Graphic Designer brings to life Heath’s vision, strategy, business model, and initiatives, to be presented in a visual way internally and externally; digitally and physically. They will wear a lot of hats: The Gatekeeper of the Heath Look, the Kerning and Spacing police, and sometimes-Photographer; an inspired advocate of what we do. In a vertically integrated company with plenty of complexity, the Graphic Designer can bring clarity via a holistic visual strategy that gives our initiatives a strong presence. They are also an excellent project manager and influencer, and can create simple systems or work within existing ones, to enable a full multifunctional team effort.

This role operates under the guidance of the Creative Director and management by the Head of Design Operations. The ability to coordinate and collaborate with others at multiple staff levels and the ability to work independently when needed is extremely important. They must be willing to get their hands dirty, chase down details, and thrive in Heath’s organic, yet intense, environment. They can turn on dime, get a thrill from making something from nothing, and always find ways to add value, no matter how unconventional. This role may manage freelance designers.

Role Functions

_ create identities (look and feel, imagery, iconography, type, layouts) for new products and product categories, events, and internal initiatives, working in tandem with communication strategies and product design intent.  

_ create and document systems and processes: style guides, training programs

_ support signage program in Retail and Building environments: ensure consistency in presentation and manage production of retail and environmental graphic elements for showrooms, fixtures, and wayfinding elements

_ support printed collateral program: design and production of catalogs and spec books, postcards

_ develop and oversee implementation of packaging solutions for Heath products

_ support product graphics for Heath products

_ research and aid selection of key vendors, eg. for packaging materials, printing, creative services

_ support digital communications and web initiatives as needed

Required Experience

_ 3-7 years professional experience in graphic design

_ BFA in graphic design or equivalent work experience in the design field

_ Ability to understand, absorb, codify, and carry forth Heath’s brand look and feel

_ Strong typography and layout skills

_ Attention to detail with good craft

_ Ability to translate visual identity across a range of channels

_ Effectively communicates concepts and ideas through layout, iconography, illustration, photography and basic copywriting, as needed

_ Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, basic HTML/CSS and related design tools

_ Excellent collaboration skills

_ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

_ Ability to multi-task and work independently

_ Ability to create strong processes and systems to ensure consistency and quality of execution

_ Photography experience preferred; know your way around a digital or analog camera
