Role Summary

Heath is looking for a talented stitcher to sew bags and soft goods accessories. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who have strong attention to detail and a passion for industrial sewing. As a Stitcher at Heath, your daily tasks will include preparing and sewing cotton, felt, canvas and leather, and producing products on demand to the specifications of the design. You will be a part of a small team in a new project at Heath called Heath Sews which aims to explore the potential of small volume soft goods production at Heath.

Essential Role Functions

_ Cuts and sews, either by machine or hand, the soft goods designs based on the specifications of each pattern.

_ Prepares fabric and materials prior to cutting including, but not limited to, dyeing, ironing and organizing

_ Performs other duties as assigned by team leader.

_ Manages time effectively on each sewing project.

_ Maintains organization and cleanliness of the workshop and personal work area, including sewing machinery as necessary to keep work moving effectively.

_ Communicates with other team members concerning problems and possible solutions.

_ Working alongside other employees and maintaining a positive attitude

Qualifications    

_ At least 2 years previous experience as a stitcher in a production/manufacturing environment.

_ Demonstrated experience in a variety of machine sewing techniques. Ability to monitor and adjust thread tension, untangle snags in the machine, and general understanding of sewing machine maintenance is a plus

_ Demonstrated experience working with a variety of materials including leather, saddle leather, canvas, waxed canvas, cotton binding.

_ Ability to operate with skill a variety of sewing machines including but not limited to: single needle industrial; industrial zig-zag; overlock, merrow or serger; domestic straight and zig-zag machines.

_ Ability to operate industrial steam iron and rivet press.

_ Ability to sit for long periods of time.

_ Ability to manage time effectively, are motivated and organized.

_ Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working with others.

_ Has high attention to detail

_ Passion for sewing

Physical Requirements

_ Using equipment requiring high dexterity. Requires good near or distant vision. Requires distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances

_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.

_ Intermittently sitting, standing, stooping. Requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction. Moderate lifting or carrying 26 – 50 lbs.
