Tile Forming will work under the direction of the Tile Lead and Tile Production Manager. This position has a three-month training period. The job entails face mounting fired tile in specific patterns, counting tile, packing tile in boxes and organizing finished tile with the proper client order.
This job requires learning all the various mounting patterns, and the ability to maintain consistency across an entire order. Must be able to blend highly variable tile to achieve uniformity, and follow mounting guidelines. Must learn all tile sizes and shapes as well as all QC standards. Candidates must pass a color blindness test due to all the various glaze colors that are used in tile production. This job requires repeated lifting. Candidates must be able to lift 35 lbs.
Candidates must be good at math, must be accurate counters, must be comfortable using computers and must be able to accurately read work orders and sales orders. Handwriting must be legible. May be trained in other areas and must be flexible to help where needed.
_ Organize tile per specific job
_ Correctly calculate the number of mounted sheets required for the order
_ Set up mount jig and pattern per order
_ Blending highly variable tile and mounting
_ Trimming excess tape off of mounted sheets
_ Boxing mounted sheets for small pallets and freight shipments
_ Managing mounting supplies
_ Organizing tile waiting to be mounted
_ Packing overstock tile
_ Labeling boxes with all appropriate information
_ Mount a minimum of 100 sheets per day
_ When needed, assist QC with boxing
After training, this position is responsible for the following primary duties:
_ Perform tile production by working in the current rotation of pressing/sanding/and cutting
_ Operation of ram press
_ Hand cutting of clay
_ Glaze, shape, and bullnose preparation may be needed
_ Board washing and other forming preparations
_ Organize unfired tile on carts for the glazing team to process
_ Communicate with kiln loading crew and potentially glaze teammates on material needs for filling kiln loads
_ Maintain the floor around the forming area to be dust free and kiln car runners clear of debris
_ Organize greenware and glaze carts according to daily needs
_ Help in other departments. This includes board washing and greenware QC. Helping in other departments
depends on the need and the number of kilns scheduled per day
_ Rotation running pug mill when needed
_ Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands on”
_ Excellent people skills: must be patient, flexible, and calm
_ Excellent communication skills both written and oral
_ Ability to enhance a team
_ Proficiency with basic Mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)
_ The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). Total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.
_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.
Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and inspecting materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small objects, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and visual checks of materials and machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. QC and Mounting may require a colorblindness test before start of the position.
No experience required but a plus.
An ideal candidate has very good attention to detail, works rapidly and is always mindful of quality. MUST follow safety procedures. Must have a positive attitude and foster a team environment. MUST be willing to learn from experienced personnel during a thorough training period. Good communication skills are required.
