This position has an eight-month training period. The job entails inspecting fired tile for defects, counting tile, recording losses, packing tile in boxes and organizing finished tile with the proper client order. When complete, the work orders must be entered in the computer system.
This job requires learning all the various tile glazes (100+) and their individual acceptable variations. Must learn all tile sizes and shapes as well as all QC standards. Ability to adapt to changing QC standards.
Candidates must be good at math, must be accurate counters, must be comfortable using computers and must be able to accurately read work orders. Handwriting must be legible.
_ Learn all 100+ glazes and 30+ shapes and sizes
_ Maintain knowledge of current QC standards
_ Sorting first v. second quality tile and coding seconds with proper class code
_ Recording sorted totals on production orders and sales orders
_ Boxing first and second quality tile
_ Labeling boxes with all appropriate information
_ As needed, label samples, box dual glaze
_ Organize fired tile on carts for the QC team to process
_ Track daily totals
_ Preparation of physical collateral (samples, boxing dual glaze)
_ As needed, assist with labeling samples
_ Assist other members of the QC Team with production orders
_ Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands on”
_ Excellent people skills: must be patient, flexible, and calm
_ Excellent communication skills both written and oral
_ Ability to enhance a team
_ Proficiency with basic Mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)
_ The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). Total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.
_ Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.
Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and inspecting materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small objects, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and visual checks of materials and machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. QC and Mounting may require a colorblindness test before start of the position.
None required but a plus.
An ideal candidate has very good attention to detail, works rapidly and is always mindful of quality. MUST follow safety procedures. Must have a positive attitude and foster a team environment. Good communication skills are required.

This is a full-time, hourly position averaging 40 hrs per week on a Monday-Friday Schedule. Heath’s production teams are part of the ILWU Local 6. Heath offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision and life.
